However, this strategy may not lead to satisfying results because denoising may smooth image details and introduce some artifacts. These artifacts will also be amplified in the following interpolation stage. In this paper we propose a joint salt and pepper noise removal and resolution enhancement algorithm using wavelet transform and multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural networks. We implement both discrete wavelet transform and dual-tree complex wavelet transform. The wavelet subbands corresponding to the noise free high-resolution image are estimated from the noisy low-resolution image using MLP subband estimators. Therefore, the noise free high-resolution image is obtained by wavelet reconstruction. Taking advantages of complex wavelet transform such as nearly shift invariance, substantially reduced aliasing and directional selectivity the subband estimation is done with higher accuracy. As it is verified in the experimental results, the proposed algorithm has superiority over the other methods both subjectively and objectively and is able to maintain the image fine structures well. First we selectively penalize the level set function to be binary and then use a Gaussian smoothing kernel to regularize it. The advantages of our method is a new region based signed pressure force(SPF) function is proposed, which can step effectively the contour at weak or blurred edges and automatically detect the interior and exterior boundaries with the initial contour being any where in the images effected with noise. The proposed method can implement by the simple finite difference scheme. Experiments on satellite images with noise demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method over the Chan-Vase (CV) active contour in terms of the number of Iterations. Read More Read Less

The study adopted a descriptive survey method. The study covered undergraduate students in history department in the humanities in three universities in the South-South geo-political zone of Nigeria. They are Niger Delta University Amassoma, Bayelsa State, Delta State University Abraka, Delta State and University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. The sample size of 273 was generated being 30% of the total population of 985 being population of history students from 100-400 used for the study. Questionnaire and Interview was used for the data collection. The study revealed among the following that: female students in history heavily rely on human assistance for information more than their male counterparts; differences exist between male and female students in the use of the Internet and databases to retrieve information; and the female students encountered difficulties relating to inability to use the library card catalogue effectively to retrieve information materials in the university libraries more than their male counterparts. The study will enable librarians to intensify their efforts to educate both male and female students about the information environment rather than simply providing the knowledge of how to use specific tools.
