The applications require high processing speeds, larger memory, more battery power and high utilization of bandwidth. These applications on one hand created challenges for hardware designers to design fast and efficient processors and other entities and on the other hand challenged network engineers to research newer routing algorithms which satisfy the needs of these applications.
