Analysis of the Growth of Medical Information Systems

Abstract

Information Systems and Technologies (IST) in healthcare have evolved gradually, and theories about adopting and maturing information systems and technologies are sufficiently established in organisational management literature. In this paper, we approach the evolution of IST in healthcare, introducing the concepts associated with maturity models, addressing the generic maturity model for IST management, and explicitly presenting the main maturity models focusing on the management of IST in healthcare. Relatively to the last ones, we conclude that there is still a way to go in having widespread and detailed maturity models available.
